Maybe you arrived early for your river trip and have a bit of time to spend in Flagstaff. Here is what to do, where to eat and how to enjoy this amazing town that calls GCW home. Flagstaff sits at 7,000 feet surrounded by Ponderosa Pines. We have the iconic Route 66 running right through downtown and the life and energy of Northern Arizona University.
Breakfast: The classic American breakfast joint Brandy’s Restaurant is one of the best spots to get your hash browns and flap jacks. They’ve been around for over 20 years and expect quite the wait if you’re trying to snag some grub on the weekend. If you’re looking for something with a bit of Mexican flavor then make sure to check out Martanne’s. They have incredibly big plates of Huevos Ranchero, Chilaquiles, and Chorizo. Tons of flavor and a cool vibe.
Morning Adventure: Walnut Canyon National Monument is just outside of Flagstaff and offers an up close view of cliff dwellings and pueblos dating to 800 years ago. A little further out of town is Meteor Crater, one of the best-preserved meteor impact sites in the world.
Lunch: Lumberyard Brewery is a staple with awesome outdoor seating and great food (and beer too!). Don’t be fooled by its location but Cafe Daily Fare has some of the best food in town. Ancho pulled pork sandwiches, duck tacos, orange almond salads. All good stuff.
Afternoon: After a big lunch head up to Arizona Snowbowl, topping out at 11,500 feet, where they offer scenic chair rides and brews on an awesome deck overlooking the ski area. If you want to stay in town head over to the Museum of Northern Arizona featuring Navajo Arts and Culture exhibits, lecture series, Colorado Plateau history and much more. Or head over to Cosmic Cycles and rent one of their awesome mountain bikes and go explore the incredible trails Flagstaff offers.
Dinner: Downtown is the place to be for dinner with options like Diablo Burger and Pato Thai to satisfy any craving.
Night Adventure: After dinner downtown wander around the many shops and scenes. If you’re around on a Saturday in the Summer check out the ‘Movies On The Square.’ Late, late night check out the Lowell Observatory for star viewing and other special events.
Phew! What a day! Flagstaff is where our office is, it is where our warehouse is, it is where we live and we absolutely love it here. We hope you enjoy your time in the cool pines too!
